Greetings from the Principal
“Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:7 & 8 The end of the school year is so close that you can feel the excitement within the school atmosphere. End of the year class trips, special events, assignments and graduation are all taking place within the next 20 days. The excitement brings a creative tension as the students depart from their class room atmosphere of learning and fellowship into a summer mixed with excitement and quietness. The school year has been one of fun, learning and anticipation. Now that we are on the eve of completion, a question to be asked is “what have we accomplished?” Has the partnership of OCS, church and family created the results we anticipated, hoped and prayed for? Students tend to evaluate the school year in terms of friendships and relationships while parents and teachers tend to evaluate the year in terms of accomplishments and reports. It is natural for us to measure accomplishments in terms of numbers. Yet is there more to what an OCS education is about? Is there another evaluator, not a replacement, which needs to be factored into student life? God addressed the nation of Israel, through the Prophet Micah, with a similar question. Micah 6 list the offer of sacrifices to the Lord yet God was looking for another segment of their life to be evaluated. It was not a question of how many rams, calves or vats of precious oil were offered, as significant as they were in that economy, but the genuine issues of the heart was the true indication of accomplishment in the Lord’s eyes. God was looking for His people to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly.” This included the entire person before God! Actions, emotions, attitudes and deeds were all essential to the life of Israel. As children, teachers and parents look for “numbers” let us be keenly aware of the Lord’s desire for us to incorporate the above into the quest for academic excellence!
